Training Guides

Make better decisions about
your motorcycle PPE.

You are briefing a factory, preparing a test submission or trying to understand a report. These guides explain how I work through those decisions, with examples and exercises to use alongside a product from your own range.

For people learning the basics, taking responsibility for documentation or planning the technical work.

Learn the reasoning behind the work

Reading a requirement is one part of the job. You still need to understand how it applies to the product in front of you and what evidence supports your next decision.

These aren’t just explanations of standards. They cover the preparation problems, evidence gaps and decisions I’ve encountered doing the work.

I have carried out tests, assessed documentation and made certification decisions. I want you to understand why a test is needed, what a report can establish and when a question still needs answering before you act.

That is how the guides teach. Read the explanation, work through the case, then compare your reasoning with the answer guidance. The working sheets help you keep the questions and evidence connected to your own product.

Motorcycle PPE Foundations

Understand the product, the evidence and who does what.

For new starters, junior product developers and people taking on motorcycle PPE for the first time.

Learn what the different parts of the product contribute, how to read classes and levels, and how testing and certification fit together. Follow a product through its specification, reports and certificate, so you know which questions to put to your factory, test house or certification body.

You get a PDF handbook, a printable workbook and an editable workbook that opens in your browser. Seven lessons, explained exercises and five reusable working sheets.

Own Your PPE Documentation

Know what you hold, what it supports and what is missing.

For brand owners, product managers and people taking responsibility for an existing documentation set.

Work through the purpose of each document and the connections between them. Learn how to check that the specification, reports and certificate describe the product being supplied, and how to keep the record usable when products, suppliers or staff change. Covers wider PPE documentation principles, using mainly motorcycle PPE examples.

You get a PDF handbook, a printable practice book and an editable version for your browser. Eight lessons, worked document examples, a takeover case and six working sheets.

Advanced Motorcycle PPE

Plan the testing and understand the decisions that follow.

For product developers and technical teams who already understand the foundations.

Work from the product's construction to the test plan. Learn how to define a submission, read a complete report, investigate a failure and compare evidence before proposing reuse or a product change.

You get a PDF handbook with ten chapters, worked cases, checkpoints and four reusable record structures. Its working records sit inside the handbook.

A development test has failed. Should you change the design?

Before recommending a change, I want to know whether the report describes the right sample, whether the correct method was used and what actually failed.

Advanced Motorcycle PPE works through those checks before moving to the next action. Its cases ask you to explain your reasoning, including when the evidence is not enough to reach a conclusion.

That is the kind of practice you get: a decision to work through, the evidence to examine and guidance that explains the answer.

Use it with a product from your own range

Keep the product's specification and available documents beside you as you read. Use the exercises to practise, then use the working sheets to record what you can establish and what is still missing.

The guides will be files you download and keep. Work at your own pace and return to a lesson when that task comes up again.

Glen Mascall

Written by Glen Mascall

Eleven years in the PPE industry, in various roles. I have run tests, led a test team, assessed and certified products, and managed projects across testing and certification.

The cases are teaching scenarios, with guidance on why an answer is supported and where further information is needed.

Before you choose

Do I need all three guides?

No. Start with the work you need to understand. Foundations begins with the basics. Documentation works on its own for people looking after the evidence set. Advanced assumes foundations knowledge and develops the testing and product decisions further.

What do the guides add to your free articles?

My articles cover individual topics. The guides give you an ordered learning sequence with worked examples, exercises and reusable records. You practise making the decisions as you read, with answer guidance to compare your reasoning against.

Which products do they cover?

The motorcycle guides focus on garments and fitted impact protectors. Foundations introduces complete gloves; Advanced covers them in more detail. Footwear, helmets and airbag systems are outside these editions. Documentation teaches how to manage the evidence set, using PPE examples.

Will completing a guide certify my product?

No. The guides teach you how to approach the work. Product-specific testing, evidence reuse and conformity decisions need competent assessment. If you want me to do that work with you, tell me about the product.

When can I buy them, and what will they cost?

The guides are in preparation. Prices and availability are still to be confirmed. Join the waiting list at the bottom of this page and I will let you know when your guide is available.
